I wish there was a possibility to put negative stars! My car was breaking down an hour away. The only solution was to bring it here. It was a big mistake! Tara is unprofessional. I was asked to turn around and top off the fuel in the car, with the engine light on and the car decreasing engine power. What?! I refused, and Tara said she was going to revoke my rental. I called corporate. Corporate Hertz wanted to talk to the manager because in my case notes it specifically stated i was not responsible for the gas. The manager refused to talk to corporate, wouldn't give his name slammed the door, and ran away like a coward. I've used their services over a decade, five star, presidential, and gold status... and on July 4th holiday. I had to waste half of my day because of a car breaking down that was not my fault! I brought the car to them, lucky to have made it and got no credits or accommodations! Happy 4th?

One of the most pitiful examples of business practices I've ever seen.

Booked a truck, called to verify the booking and they said they had no trucks available. Called 4 times for 6 minutes each trying to speak to a human.

The human blatantly ignored my question 3 times, providing all manner of dialogue absolutely unrelated to my query.

WHY DOES YOUR DUMB WEB SITE AUTHORIZE THE RENTAL OF A TRUCK IF THERE ARE NONE AVAILABLE!!

Dumbest business practice I've ever seen.

I have to say that Hertz/Dollar Rent a Car Sky Harbor Phoenix International Airport & Flagstaff Pulliam Airport are unwilling to rectify our unfortunate situation with our EV rental after explaining in detail of our frustration. On our second day having the rental we were so frustrated and upset that we decide to call and see what can be done in order to switch the vehicle and Jayden was kind enough to help us, provided us with some details regarding EV rentals and getting us to the closes Hertz/Dollar where we can switch the car. We got a reference number regarding our switch and confirmation that we’ll have a new gas operated car and, we provided the time of our arrival. We’re excited to get the car switch so we can stop wasting time with the charging and not backtracking on our plans. Upon arrival, Terra Sheridan over at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport said that she called us to inform us that in that location they have no more cars available and that she left a voicemail. First of all, we already hit the road coming from Page, Az at 55% charge arriving with 2% and second we have no records of such call. Now we talked to Terra Sheridan and her solution was to ask her neighboring rental company and a dealership where we can rent a car (we check and no cars available, and the dealership was out of the question, the cost completely absurd). We called Dollar/Hertz to see what can be done, come to a solution and come to find out that Hertz Pulliam Flagstaff has cars to give us but Terra was not willing to help us. Everything pointed out going back to Phoenix and switching car. Not a solution, we’re 5 hour north of Phoenix, if we would’ve done that, there goes out trip.
We ended up sucking it up, we wasted our Saturday afternoon charging the stupid car rather our hikes and paid excursions we had planned.
Day of return, we spoke to Alexis which she’s the manager at Hertz and explain everything we went thru for her to tell us that what she can do is waive the return fee for not charging the car and that “supposedly” we were informed by our agent when we first picked up the car “EV vehicles are not recommended to rent in really hot climate states and for the fact that the northern part of Arizona lack in charging stations”. Hearing those words infuriated us because it’s not true and our reservation did not mention anything about that concerning detail. Obviously if I would’ve know that I would never had rented an EV car. Edward, Eddie, Ed whatever his name is should’ve said something to us even after having a great conversation about our plans and that we’re renting this EV car for the first time.
Soo, I’ve sent out several emails regarding this matter and all I get is late responses and unwilling to rectify this situation.
My suggest to whom ever decide to rent a car for either of these companies to choose wisely and avoid renting an EV car unless it’s a Tesla.
- Alexis Hertz Manager Sky Harbour Phoenix Airport
- Terra Sheridan Manager Flagstaff Pulliam Airport
- Jayden, Gertrude & Misha Hertz/Dollar Road Side Assistance
- Jon - Dollar Rent A Car Representative

These are all the employees I dealt with regarding our situation along with the reference numberS for our original reservation and our new reservation for switching the EV car to a gas operated car.

The worst customer care, attention and total disregard.

Much more to mention but I don’t have energy anymore, all the negative reviews are facts and hope this helps to whom ever is wanting to rent with them.

One of my best experiences with rental cars companies, was so happy to be there until I didn’t get my deposit back for fuel, and the fuel was an option for free when I picked the car.

Integrity, respect, responsibility. The three pillars of Hertz’s Code, which is meant to guide all aspects of their business.
Unfortunately, there are some gaps in the company culture between the profit seeking and the customer service aspects of Hertz’s practices.
After a local, two-day rental to get us through a car repair, the crew at the Flagstaff Airport pulled two opportunistic and deceitful moves by charging a late fee and an excessive cleaning fee on our final bill.
After taking up the late fee charge with a customer service rep, I later noticed that my initial billing estimate—from the time of pickup— already included a fee for an extra hour, even before I had driven the car away. After picking up the vehicle shortly after 2pm on Sunday (closing time is 3pm) they went ahead and pro-rated the bill out to my designated 3pm dropoff time two days later.
During our time using the vehicle, we put the back seats down and laid a blanket down to cushion some items we were transporting. Within minutes after dropping off the car the final bill can through via email with a $50 excessive cleaning fee tacked on.
I returned to the rental counter to inquire and was told that there was dog hair in the back of the vehicle. I explained that we had laid a blanket from the garage there and asked to see the vehicle and the excessive cleaning job we had triggered. A mere 23 minutes after handing over the keys, I was told that the vehicle had already been cleaned, and therefore I couldn’t be shown the alleged mess.
A complaint filed with Hertz corporate came back siding with local management (shocking), outlining the fact that the back of the vehicle had ‘a ton of pet hair.’
I wish I had taken pictures of the rental upon pickup and dropoff. The seats and windshield were dirty when I first got in, and any pet hair that came off our blanket was barely noticeable when I did a sweep of the car for any items left behind.
It’s too bad when customers can’t be shown basic respect and courtesy. The employees at the Flagstaff Airport were smug and dismissive, and I hope they feel pleased about adding an extra $75 to our rental.
I canceled my Hertz Gold membership and will make sure never to rent from the local or any other Hertz establishment. I hoped after a similarly negative experience last year with Hertz in CA that it had been an outlier incident, but it seems like a there is a lack of corporate accountability in this case.

Do not use Hertz at all costs. I was told to go to this location to exchange a damaged vehicle 3x by Hertz roadside assistance. When I arrived no representative was at the counter for a very long time. When the representative returned, the representative was very rude and told me they could not exchange the vehicle. She advised the roadside assistance was a third party vendor and unrelated to Hertz- so please know that this line is fairly useless when it tells you to exchange a vehicle. The service at this location was deplorable and I will never rent from Hertz again.

Best car rental experience I've ever had. The manager went way out of his way to get me the rental truck that I was looking for. The service was amazing from pick up to return. I'd highly recommend this location.

Outstanding customer service by Craig and Terra, helping me overcome a problem that arose when the Hertz website allowed me to book a reservation at a time when this location was closed. Craig and Terra found a solution to get me on my way. While I was very frustrated with the problem, they made me very happy with the solution. I would highly recommend! I would also urge Hertz to limit the availability of reservations close to closing time, and meanwhile I recommend that customers verify that the office is going to be open at the time they make their reservation.
