We came to take an evening ride on the dolly paddlewheeler. While not actually powered by the paddlewheel it was a very nice cruise just the same. The captain has interesting local information as you go around canyon lake. The food was good and the staff was also helpful and friendly. It was a couple of hours but felt longer in a good way. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to do something relaxing but interesting. The road up to the lake is an adventure in itself but it's smooth and paved. Just drive accordingly and you'll be fine.

We have camped here with our rv the last 2 years for Thanksgiving weekend with friends who have been doing so with their families for the last 14 years. Last year we had to arrive in either Tuesday or Friday of Thanksgiving week as there was no office staffing on Thanksgiving or the day before. This year we were able to arrive on Wednesday but the entrance gates were closed and unmanned at various times during the day and evening with no way for someone to get back into camp after having left. The boat launch ramp was also closed off during the day making it impossible to get a boat in the water after having paid fees to do so at check-in. The showers were closed and where there was grassy areas between the campsites and the lake there was now dirt and the remnants of dead grass which was obviously being allowed to die. Very disappointed in the deteriorating quality f the campground itself and the lack of proper management and care in light of the high fees they now charge...over $1400 for 4 sites for 4 nights for water and 30amp sites without sewer. We hope that whoever now manages Canyon Lake Marina and Campground can figure out how to give this once beautiful spot the care it deserves.

We recently camped (tent) here and for the most part enjoyed our stay. We got a back-in RV site and put two tents up on the site. I think this made a difference, as the tent area seemed louder and rowdier. We were two families with young kids. The RV area was mostly families, and the all went inside at night so it was also quieter. The port-o-potties seemed cleaner in this area, too, since most of the RVers probably had their own to use. No showers available that we saw. Very close to the water, we were able to launch our inflatable boat. Picnic table, electric & water, plenty of room for two tents, fire ring. Close to Tortilla Flat and Goldfield. Old restaurant by Dolly Steamboat loading area is now a "general store." They sell ice but not firewood. Note that Tortilla Flat doesn't sell firewood either, so you need to by it in Apache Junction before heading up the Apache Trail.

I stayed in spot 103 in a tent. Neither the electricity nor the water were working at the site (which I paid extra for). They did bring down an extension cord and we plugged into a site that was going to be vacant during my stay and the following day, they found a spigot handle so I had water. The showers were also not working.
I had read about the porta-potties so brought a camping toilet. I did need to go into them to dump the stuff from the camp toilet and found them pretty clean. Not nearly as bad as I had read.
This location is absolutely beautiful and I hope in time they put some work into the campgrounds. It could be really nice. It is such a beautiful setting!
The staff were all amazing and helpful. The general store is open and has essentials.
There is indeed a lot of road noise. This has nothing to do with the campground, it is motorcyclists and people in large trucks that actually seem to rev purposely when approaching the marina. Possibly due to the single lane bridge. There are also lots of bats, which I thought was pretty cool. At dusk, they are very active. There are also quite a few skunks. I knew to keep all of the food in my Bronco, but they were still very curious about my campsite. They were actually really cute to look at... from a distance.

I RARELY do any reviews that are less than 5 Star, however.......... (this review is for the campground) here goes! The area is beautiful!!! However, they have a bad skunk problem, the bathhouse is inoperable, they charged my credit card for a dump WITHOUT even letting me know, the place is getting run down due to lack of maintenance. Too bad...it could be awesome.

We stayed at campsite 103 with our dogs and daughter in our RV. Everything was great. We pulled in and Jenny the camp host was immediately there to greet us. Helped with all of our questions and was an awesome neighbor to have for the weekend. We liked it so much we booked the same spot a couple weeks later for Father’s Day! Great Lake for paddle boarding and playing with the family. We’re booked for next year already. Thanks Jenny!

It could be a gem. Looks like they are working on the campground. Needs a gate keeper. Needs a easier way to check in. Needs grass. Needs stuff in the store.

I wish someone would have warned me about the CAMPGROUND experience! First off, the water was wonderful and refreshing. The tent site itself was nice and sectioned off but that's about it! Why do they charge so much with a 2 day minimum if the property is disgusting and dirty?! I'm fully aware this is dirt camping and that's not what I'm referring to. There's trash everywhere! In the bushes, in the water and around vehicle parking. I don't have a problem with a Porta potty but I do have a problem when there's no toilet paper, pieces of tp all over the floor, piss ALL over the floor, walls and door. It looked like it hadn't been serviced way past what it needs to be - the human feces was to the top! I'm always fully aware that these things are disgusting but I also know a well kept one from one that is neglected and not properly taken care of. Their showers are on a trailer. Ok, no big deal, right? Wrong! This was a shower toilet combo and it looked like people were using the whole thing to go #1 and #2 wherever they wanted. No joke, it looked like a scary movie. On one side of the trailer water was leaking and I want to say it was shower water because it didn't smell but it flooded the entire area. So much so that the water was very close to the camp site right next to it. Coming back to the price, why is the price so high if there isn't a host? People were partying ALL night.... Boats were being pulled out of the water at 3am, blasting the music, screaming, laughing, jumping in and out of the water etc. I get it... It's camping and people want to have fun but my kids and I got NO sleep? Where and who is regulating? Upon arrival, I was told it was a "no-burn" day and that's totally fine, I came prepared for that but people still had their fire pits lit! ? Where is the ranger? I don't mean to be a Karen but if you're told not to burn because the risk of fire is high.... ? Anyway, if that wasn't enough ... This is probably the worst part(?) Motorcycles and "rice burner's" were driving up and down the canyon ALL night..... No joke! The entire time! Needless to say, I will never camp here again! Maybe just come during the day but never camp! You've been warned.
