If you want your happy fishing day vibe get ruined then come here.
I interacted with 3 staff: 1 sweet guy(a cashier), the rest 2 gave very negative experience:
Employee 1 aka Knowing You Are Waiting But What Can You Do About It Guy: Passionately helping 2 customers, knowing we were waiting, so he told us to wait for him, then he talked to those 2 customers for MORE THAN HALF AN HOUR and yes I waited for more than half an hour, and OFC he left for break after those 2 customers made a purchase instead of helping us.
Employee 2 aka I Hate My Job Guy: a cashier that is super impatient when we seek help, when Employee 1 asked him to fill in to help us he came over and threw his attitude to our face when we were consulting about fishing equipment.
In all, was about to give 1 star, but gave 3 star since there was one nice cashier that said ‘have a good day’ to us when checking out.
In all, this place gives zero f about shopping experience.

I'll be doing my shopping at Defender and Jamestown from now on. I've purchased thousands of dollars of overpriced gear at the San Carlos, CA West Marine as they're the only game in town, but the constantly changing staff there is marginal at best and indicative of poor leadership and work environment. They don't know boats, they're are judgmental and forget what customer service means. Thanks West Marine for convincing me to not spend another red cent at any of your stores.

Very clean and organized store. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Has most of all your boating essentials and then some! My go-to for all my marine related needs. Also some sweet fishing gear!

Good selection and prices - great to be able to see and try specialized items before purchasing. Their order online, pick up in store is great because you don't pay for orders until you go there and see the items.

My husband and I couldn’t live (… sail) without West Marine in San Carlos. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Maurice goes out of his way to help us find products we’re looking for and to quickly bring it into the store if it’s not in stock. The store is always clean and organized. I especially appreciate the consistency in staffing which isn’t easy in retail. We can rely on the same associates and look forward to being greeted with a smile during our many, many visits.

Nice selection of fishing tackle and general marine equipment but many products are sold out or missing. Prices are fair but better prices can be found in other places, staff is usually available, and a good selection of bait is available.

I only go there when i have to and can't go somewhere else
