Friendly, prompt service with a smile. I had booked through a 3rd party, and LYCKILY, they found my reservation at the counter.
The car was clean, drove well, and I had no issues with performance. I did not, however, like that the only person I could get in touch with during my over-the-weekend rental was ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. No customer service reps, and ROADSIDE couldn't tell me whether or not the toll I was going to incur in less than 100 miles would be charged to my credit card, or license on the rental. (It makes a difference... l had moved, and my last toll went onto my license... I didn't receive the forwarded letter until it was already in the fine stage, costing me double and a hassle.

Just a heads up: they made me take my vehicle and vacuum it out or they were going to charge me a fee. I had already swept out some grass and crumbs just to be helpful. We barely used the vehicle. It felt like they just didn’t want to clean it themselves before renting it out again. The day we picked our vehicle up I called to be sure it was ready. After assuring me that it was, I drove 30 minutes to find out that a hold had been placed on the vehicle for an oil change. We had to kill an hour and they offered no compensation or apologies. I will never use this rental company again.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!! First of all, I had such a bad customer service experience here. When I came in no one greeted me. The woman who works here acts like she’s annoyed you’re there. I waited for a hour to get my car past my pick up time and didn’t even get the car I asked for. That’s fine. I can deal with that. However when visiting Nashville I got a parking ticket. No problem. I was new to the city and didn’t realize. There was nothing left on the car to show I got a ticket. However hertz didn’t notify me of the ticket for months until the notice was closed and then charged me a fee because it wasn’t paid. They could have just notified me or paid the ticket from my card. But no they waited so long that they charged me for a closed notice and unpaid ticket. This is the worst experience renting a car I’ve ever had and I’ve rented cars all over the world. Do yourself a favor and go to any other car rental place. I’ll never rent here again.

Was in an accident that we were not at fault for.. called hertz from my hospital bed to inform them. I was charged extra days because I didn't return the undrivable car to the airport or decatur lot while in the hospital! Called again and said i physically cannot get the totalled car to them.. They kept charging me. Then they kept contacting me after my lawyer told them to stop, trying to get 20000 dollars for the car. Because the at fault driver didn't have insurance, it was now my responsibility to have my insurance cover it. They harassed me instead of contacting my insurance or lawyers while I was injured.

Although we have previously rented vehicles from other companies for various reasons such as out of state- on vacations, our vehicles in the shop for maintenance, etc.. last week was the first time we had ever chosen Hertz rental car company. Out of all of the many times and different states that my husband & I have rented a vehicle- this time was the best car rental experience up to this point. From the first phone call when we call them to ask if they had a vehicle, until the completion of returning the vehicle, dealing with this particular company, office, and staff- was the best! Especially their customer service, the attitude in the office with their employees, and overall kindness and ease of everything. From our experience, as well as us watching them with other customers- Their employees treat customers as though they are happy to help you with your needs! Never as though you are a burden to their day. I cannot say enough great things about this small branch of Hertz! Although this particular location is on the smaller side, the way they choose to treat and communicate with their customers is worth the praise!!

* I was a little bit hesitant to even call this particular company and/or location due to the low rated reviews- but after I had reserved a vehicle located in Madison- online from a company we have used several times in the past, and after the way this particular company we had originally reserved a vehicle with- was extremely rude in person when we arrived to pick up the vehicle we had reserved- which the vehicle actually was not even there- nor did they have any idea when they would have it- even though it was reserved for us to be picked up. They had not called me ahead of time to let me know or anything. Instead, they chose to use an unpleasant attitude towards me- and I was simply a customer who had arrived to pick up a vehicle that I had reserved. I also had observed how they treated other customers- on the phone as well in person. The attitude and behavior was unacceptable in every way. I chose to cancel the reservation we had with that company that we had reserved a vehicle online with and then drive further away- totally inconveniencing myself, but I would not do business with a company who treated customers the way I had experienced first hand by them- but I also observed first hand- the way they spoke to other customers. I fully understand that this experience does not reflect the entire company- but it was with a couple of employees that were managing that particular location. I chose to not call and report their attitudes and behaviors, or have those individuals to potentially loose their jobs because I fully understand that it will catch up with them no matter what. Although I remained calm, and collected, I chose to refuse to do business there after being treated that way and then find a company who excelled in the customer service department and give them to e praise they are due!! I did not reveal to anyone at the Decatur location of Hertz- about our experience that had just happened- I wanted to experience the culture of their company without any knowledge of another company choosing to have unacceptable customer service. The Decatur location of Hertz car rental- absolutely exceeded my expectations with our personal experience and the observation of how they interacted with other customers. They deserve applause and recognition! I still am confused as to why the ratings and reviews that were scored low…‍♀️ Not sure, but we will be back if we need to rent a vehicle for normal, everyday use. Please do not judge them based on the low reviews. Call them, and have your own experience with them and see for yourself! Way to go Hertz in Decatur! I will never do business with Hertz ever again. The staff at this location were rude and dismissive. I returned the car practically in perfect condition. I had it for 3 weeks so naturally it was ready to go to the carwash but just normal wear and tear. The I side was perfectly clean aside from some sand and tiny debris off the bottom of my shoes on the driver's side carpet which in my mind is completely normal after 3 weeks, to me it would be normal after 1 day... I returned it with a full tank of gas as I had received it. When the lady came out to look at the car when I returned it she made a comment about how I needed to clean ot before returning it. I said excuse me? She said it needs to be returned exactly as you received it. I said there's no damage to the car, the tank is full and the interior is very clean. She then just started demanding to know if this was a personal rental or through insurance. I just looked up my receipt, which she did not provide me after leaving the car with her and I have been slapped with a $75 cleaning fee. The vacuum is free at most car washes, where is the $75 worth of cleaning that needed to be done? I emailed the company and the response I got was so generic. They told me that the issue has already been addressed...? Not with me it hasn't been because I have not spoken to anyone about it other then the rude lady at the Decatur location. The email response told me that all Hertz cars must be cleaned, serviced and in good mechanical order before being rented. Wonderful, but where in my rental agreement does it say that those things are my responsibility?

Avoid this location if possible. I wish I had paid a little more and used Enterprise or other car rental service. I won't go into all the details except for this. I prepaid for a vehicle 2 weeks in advance to get a small discount. Upon arrival at the appointed time, I was told I had to call the Hertz toll free number, cancel the prepaid rental, and pay with a different card even though the transaction had been approved 2 weeks before. 10 minutes listening to sucky HOLD music later, a human answered. I expected to sign something, grab the keys, and leave. If you want a stressful experience and like to write negative reviews, go ahead and rent a car here.

Did my rental online through Priceline with the pickup at the Decatur AL Hertz, because it was the cheapest of any car rentals in Huntsville and the surrounding areas. Drove 45 mins to pick up the car, only to be told they didn't have the vehicle I had reserved. They also didn't have any other vehicles other than a full size SVU, which they were willing to give me for an additional $50 a day on top of the cost of the original rental of $98 for Friday-Monday rental. No offer to see if another lcoation would be able to accomodate my reservation. The system used through Priceline was blamed for the confusion. It didnt update to reflect the inventory. That was a lie. I went directly to the Hertz page and the vehicle I had reserved was still showing available. When the rental camw across their system and knew they didn't have the vehicle I had reserved or anything comparable, the reservation should have been canceled or call me to update me about the situation. This was my first and last time dealing with Hertz?.
