I’ve waited a few months on purpose to write a review. I wanted to cool off from my ordeal with Airport Marine.

The service ticket said, among other things, to call me with an estimate on a new starter and to call with a larger, used motor pricing.  They did neither and replaced the starter anyway.  The old starter was in fact still functional.  It was just making a funny noise which is why I asked them to call me first.

I picked the boat up and stored it for a while over winter/Christmas.  While launching the boat for the first time since picking up from Airport Marine, I discovered that the brand-new starter wasn’t working.   The boat was in the water at this point, but the motor wouldn’t start.   After investigating I found that the starter wasn’t engaging the flywheel, but I couldn’t determine why.   This was very stressful, getting the boat back on the trailer and dealing with this starter issue.

A simple test at the shop by turning the key after installation would’ve made this issue known immediately.

So I call Airport marine and tell them about the problem and they say to bring it in.    I drop the boat off and I was expecting quick turnround (a day or two) because it was a return service issue.    Eight days later when I get the call, I’m expecting some major issue, but it was even more disappointing than that.

When they installed the brand-new starter, the mechanic forgot to remove a tiny little plastic cap to protect the starter during shipping.   They said once they looked at it, they had it ready to go in 10 minutes.  When I picked it up they were unapologetic and acted like nothing out of the ordinary had happened.  They didn’t even offer a discount on a next service or parts or anything.

Someone else mentioned in their review that they didn’t cover the boat back up when service was complete. This was the case with my boat as well.

Exceptional experience working with Jim Hicks at Airport Marine. Called in to discuss a possible repower of an old Boston Whaler and Jim was extremely helpful from the start. He gave me a great high level overview of the potential project including budgetary costs on the fly. A few more calls with Jim and I knew this was the right place to get the work done. Had them install a new Mercury Pro XS plus some new lights and Garmin unit while they had it. Everything was meticulously completed on time and with great communication. Went to pick the boat up and they had actually just washed it expecting my arrival.

I meet the owner of airport marine in December and purchased a mercury 75hp outboard motor for my xmas gift. The motor was install by airport mariner. I also had steering cable n gear shifter. I went from yamaha 50hp to mercury 75hp, on December 15, 2023. The last day before they close. I came n pickup my pontoon boat. The mechanic show me some things what they did. He also told me, that he rebuild the carburetor after he ran the boat because it didn't run good. I ran the boat 2 times before Xmas. The boat was then put up n cover for 4 month. I then took it out to riverside landing n boat wouldn't crank. The boat was taken back to airport marine that Monday. I received a call n was told the carburetor need to be rebuild. They ask me where did I purchased this motor n who install it. I told them you. They got back n then say we can fix it; but the charger will be 500 dollars for the carburetor. I had just paid them 4,000 for a motor n to install it. They wouldn't even work with me. They told me u need to install seafoam or fuel stabilizer. I wouldn't recommend them to nobody or take my boat to them after this..

Shout out to Gary & friends at Airport Marine for outstanding technical service and support. One year ago, Gary corrected a sporadic starting problem that plagued my Yamaha for several years. Since then the problem has not reoccurred and needless to say, my time on the water has been much more enjoyable. My experience at Airport Marine was singularly exceptional. Happy Anniversary!
