We would (and have!) recommend Alaska Family Motorhomes to anyone looking to visit the Last Frontier. From pick-up at the airport to easy drop-off, everything about the experience was smooth and as expected. Our converted Chrysler Town and Country, "Midnight," practically became a part of the family. It was a great way to get around quickly, and combined the cost of a rental car with lodging.

Using AFM, we were able to easily and affordably see the entire Kenai Peninsula, Denali, and the Anchorage/Palmer area. (Campsites we'd recommend are Denali NP, Bird Creek Campground/Parking Area, and Matanuska Lakes State Recreation Area with your AFM vehicle)

There was some very mild confusion when we were scheduling our ride, but everything was cleared up quickly and we were glad to know we were talking to a real person at a family business and not an overly-slick conglomerate.

One of our friends to whom we recommended AFM also reserved a ride with them for their southcentral Alaska trip. They had a great experience, even on the last day when they had trouble with their vehicle. AFM swiftly responded and delivered VIP-level roadside service to make sure they were efficiently picked up and comfortable so that the trip wasn't delayed.

We would highly recommend AFM to anyone ready to take the trip of a lifetime in southcentral Alaska.

Rented a 30ft RV from AFM in late June for 8 days. Chose AFM due to their positive reviews and being locally owned. First red flag was the hassle in proving that our auto insurance policy covers the RV rental. I called AFM before contacting my insurance company to get their specific requirements for proof of coverage. My insurance company provided what AFM requested. Tom, the owner of AFM said it was "good" but wanted a form that is outdated, according to our insurance agent. After several back and forths, our information was finally approved by Tom, the day we arrived in AK. Second red flag: they were nearly 30 minutes late for our pick up. The only reason they showed is because I called. It went downhill from there. The motorhome was not ready and had a hard time starting. The generator didn't work; therefore, they provided a pull-start gas generator. I had a shoulder injury at the time, so thankfully I was not on my own. Of no surprise, the gas can was empty and did not even have a cap to prevent spilling. Finally, the refrigerator check light was on from the start, but we were assured it was just a matter of getting cooled down over the next several hours. I was trying to look past the very old interior that appeared to be in rough shape (hinges were either taped or off altogether, smelly overall). As the trip progressed over the next several days, we quickly realized the refrigerator did not work. I spent more time texting and talking with Tom to troubleshoot the issue than I felt was reasonable while on vacation. Thankfully, we brought coolers and were able to purchase ice throughout our adventure. Tom kept insisting the refrigerator worked before our pick up, as if to discredit my experience. When I asked why there was black electrical tape over the "check engine" light on the driver's dash, he stated that it was "a minor emission issue" and that the RV is "perfectly drivable." I expressed my extreme disappointment with my overall experience. There was no acknowledgement to me as the customer. Furthermore, their problems became my big problems. In the end, my family and I had an incredible time exploring Alaska and creating memories. Tom's employee, Pat, was absolutely incredible, and Tom provided an extremely minimal refund for our inconvenience. If I had to do it over again, I would rent from a well-known company with a current fleet of vehicles.

We have mixed feelings about our RV rental. We rented from Alaska Family Motorhomes (AFM) because they were cheaper than their competitor. However you get what you pay for. The RV was old (2008?) and VERY rickety. Check engine light was on, but we were told was an emissions sensor. There was something wrong with the front suspension and the steering was super loose which mandated two hands on the wheel at all times. The steering was so bad that it made driving the RV tiring for the drivers (2 tenured CDL drivers) and anxiety provoking for the passengers especially since some of the Alaskan highways aren't the smoothest. Which put a definite damper on our vacation. It did get us from point A to point B without any mechanical issues which was a great surprise. The interior was very loud and made conversation difficult. Overall we enjoyed our trip and saw some of the most beautiful scenic views, but if we had to do all over again, we'd spend the extra money and go with the competitor. Great job to Ursula for working with us on our afterhours pickup, which was really nice.

We booked a Campervan with this rental company and everything worked perfectly. The booking was quite easy and we had some questions concerning the car and our routing and everything was answered fast and with a very friendly attitude. The car itself was also great. clean and stocked with all kinds of helpful stuff and it kept running smoothly for our whole trip. We slept in the back for 3 1/2 weeks and it was very comfortable. The car went over 2000 miles with us, it was an amazing trip and we are happy we chose this company for our holiday. Could not have been better! I can really recommend booking here.

We rented the Nanook to car camp around the Kenai Peninsula for 10 days. The car was really well outfitted for car camping with a totally collapsible kitchen in the back, including a camping stove, sink area and dish rack, cutting board, cooler, and storage for plates, silverware, and basic cooking essentials that came with the van. We mainly ended up camping in a tent but the beds that fold out in the inside of the car were really comfy. Lots of storage in the middle (we had 5 big bags that all fit). We did have a bit of maintenance issues on the last day (unfortunate regular car stuff) and they were very responsive and helpful - they helped navigate with AAA because we had spotty service, sent an aunt and uncle to check in on us, and John came down to pick us up himself, and we had a lovely chat on our drive back up to Anchorage. It is a family business, so the initial communication around the rental contract/insurance was a bit less streamlined than a corporate rental company if that’s your style, but in our experience the human interaction and touch was well worth it. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to do a mix of car camping and back country camping!

From central Florida, we rented a class C motorhome in Anchorage (8-10 till 8-22) & camped over 1500 Alaskan miles in complete comfort & safety. We had everything we needed, right down to a toaster, coffee maker & camp chairs. Our only complaint was we had to pay $75 to "borrow" our bedding. And with that, our only suggestion is a FITTED sheet please. The adjustable AIR bed was very comfortable. Everything else about our vehicle & this company made our Alaskan vacation absolutely fantastic, including driving us to the airport free of charge. We'll be back!!

Great communication and very accommodating. Scheduled an after hours pick up from anchorage airport, did a thorough walkthrough of the rig. - RV was an older model but absolutely no issues, ran well and helped make a great first adventure through Alaska. Thank you, Tom!
