I love this little shop!
All kinds of yummy foreign items. Sweets to savory. They have a whole case full of different types of sweets so you can get yourself a mix. Case of meats, and another with cheese!

My favorite thing is the coolers full of cheeses!... They have some from the United States as well as different countries. Caramelized onion cheddar... Talk about drool worthy.

The shop is very small and it can be difficult to walk through it if there are lots of folks in there.

If Au Marche could have put a sign saying “we do not welcome Asians” or “White only”, I believe they would. I have lived in this country for almost 20 years, and my experience at Au Merche yesterday was truly one of the worst and obvious examples of racism I have ever experienced. I was the only customer when there were three people working there. I did not need to be greeted immediately, but I waited patiently at the counter so that one of them could help me to get some chocolate from the counter inside. I even said “excuse me” nicely a couple of times to get their attention, especially the one who was only 3 feet away from me. I was ignored. Just when I thought maybe I should raise my voice a little bit, a white man with European accent came into the store from the back door, which was far away from this manager at the counter. Surprisingly, the manager at the counter immediately greeted him warmly, and walked by ignoring me to help him: explaining, introducing, and wrapping gifts so warmly. It all happened like I did not exist there. I really had to politely raise my voice to get their attention: “excuse me?! I have been here for a long time.” The manager finally glanced at me from the corner of her eyes and talked to the white guy: “oh, she was first? I did not know.” Then she asked another person working there to ask me what I need to buy. Please do not tell me there is a better explanation than racism and discrimination. Au Marche, if you do not want to sell your precious European goods to Asians, you can put a sign saying “No Asians allowed” and our Asian community would love to help you advertise your skin-color preference.

I am incredibly impressed with Au Marche. Last week I purchased a charcuterie board for Thanksgiving - I was supposed to pick it up Wednesday. The order got lost, but Jill made me a new one and even hand delivered it to my home. Such an incredible level of support on a wildly hectic day for them.

Just a Sample of French Delights

During my exploration of Lawrence, Kansas, I trekked over to Au Marche. With my current book, The Fat Girls Club Paris Bound on it’s debut, I longed for a return to The City of Lights.
This quaint and delightful shop was a reminder of the ones I came across along the streets and alleys of Paris. The store offers a sampling of beauty, food and other fun items. The clerk, October, (yes, that is her name) assisted in my search for items to offer my contest winners. She was an enjoyable host as she pointed out unique items I couldn’t find anywhere else.
Don’t pass up the candies in the display case. Not only are they a treat for the eyes, the flavors will wake up your taste buds.
Overall: This classy shop is worth a visit because of the wonderful customer service.

Over the years, this has been my “go to” place to take out of town guests and to buy presents for my friends. Beautiful artisan chocolates, French macarons, calendars, all sorts of meats and cheeses, even socks! Lora and her staff are so friendly and helpful. For any holiday or for hostess gifts, you will be able to buy the perfect gift here. My son, living overseas, found the perfect gifts for Mother’s Day 2022. A French puzzle and French macarons, both items I have been eyeing lately. So nice to be remembered with presents from my favorite store.

I found several special treats from my elderly mother's past - she'll love them for Christmas. Gold coin chocolate, advent calendar, hot cocoa mix, stöllen, fruit cake, and maple sugar. 😋 Sometimes food = love.

Great store for us lost souls from Holland 🇳🇱. The chocolate letters that I remember as a young child coming from my Oma & Opa during Christmas is a fond memory. Today I brought (3) letters.
