Had a car rental through them scheduled for over about a month. Came to pick up car but main driver has Mother in hospital dying and couldn't go on trip. Guy at counter couldn't even bother waiving the additional driver fee. HAD to get every penny possible out of me. Now I get to the car on space 35 and car smells like weed and cigarettes. They are charging a $500 deposit on a car that there's no smoking in. Car is dirty inside and can't really see damage on the outside due to rain.
Shitty people at counter. I get that some people like to take advantage of things but definitely so do companies.

Would like to specifically speak on Raymond and Patricia. Not only were they extremely helpful and upfront and honest, but were genuinely kind. Overall 10/10 customer service experience. Car was exactly what I asked for, performed as well as expected. Will also note that I purchased prepaid fuel, I did not realize this came out of the initial deposit I made when renting the car so I expected this to reflect back on my account for a while but when the transactions came threw I was confused. Will also add that customer service was able to explain this to me over the phone. I rented this vehicle for just over two weeks for under $1000. When looking into rentals fox beat out competition 9/10, will absolutely go through them again.

UPDATE: Below they say they'll "make things right." This is nothing but cynical window-dressing. Look at their response, which basically says, "you're s*** out of luck." Ask to see a bill/estimate before you leave the rental center with the car - or better yet, don't rent with them at all. They pull you in with lower base rates than their competitors, but your actual bill will be about 2-3 times as high as the base rate. Like Amanda below, I was asked if I was traveling over bridges and when I said I planned to do so a few times (over the course of the month that I'm here), they gave me a toll pass - without telling me that it was a $13/day charge whether you actually use it or not. I also made it clear that I did not want to pay extra for insurance since I have my own coverage but was told that rental liability insurance is required by the state. I have since found out that that's not true at all. They're a sleazy bunch of swindlers. Don't get hooked. Tomorrow I have to travel back up to Oakland to terminate my rental after only four days and use another company since I truly can't afford the estimate they presented me with. And multiple emails to the manager have yielded no response.

Ms. Dana a manager at Fox Car rental was extremely helpful, very military friendly, assisted with swapping a vehicle and patiently completed all necessary paperwork and billing. Thank you Ms. Dana for making this a smooth transaction. Highly recommend.

Update: I was told over the phone when calling about these charges that a manager would call me in the next 48 hours but no one ever called. Also, I messaged the company as directed from their comment on this review and was never contacted after several days. I'm so disappointed by the customer service. Do not rent from Fox!!

I rented a car with Fox over the weekend and they ripped me off. The man and the counter told me I needed to get a "PlatePass" if I was traveling over any of the bridges. I told him I would only be going over a bridge once and he said I would only be charged for when I use it like a FasTrak. He never mentioned any daily fee, I was then charged $50 when I only had one toll fee equaling $8. I feel like he intentionally deceived me to get more money out of me. I will not be using Fox again!

My flight was delayed so I requested someone to pick up the car for me. Add an additional driver. You would think that would be easy since I could have done that when i made the reservation a week ago. But no. I can pick up the car, can't add a driver, and won't get a single penny back if I cancel it. DON'T RENT HERE

EDIT (1 week later): I reached out to Fox via their "Contact Us" page immediately after receiving their response to this review. I have not gotten a response although their website says they will respond within 72 hours. This has only reinforced my negative experience with this rental car company.

Worst experience I’ve had with a car rental. I hardly ever write reviews, but felt the need to write one to warn others. I initially reserved a “Ford Ecosport (or similar)” specifically because the Ecosport has AWD. When I arrived at the Fox desk, I was told that, in fact, they don’t ever have Ford Ecosports and that I could either get a 2 wheel drive SUV or upgrade to get 4 wheel drive. I (incorrectly) assumed that “or similar” means the vehicle is comparable in all aspects, but this is clearly not the case. Then, to upgrade to the SUV with 4 wheel drive, the man at the rental counter *repeatedly* said it would be an additional $30. It wasn’t until I saw the contract that I realized it would be $30 extra per day. This wouldn’t have been a problem if I hadn’t been told multiple times that it would only be an additional $30 (no mention of the “per day”). Then, when I dropped the car off, the attendant told me it was actually around $75 extra (rather than the additional $60 I was originally quoted for a 2 day rental). As for the car, one of the tires was low when I got the car, and all 4 tires are basically bald and are clearly unsafe. One more thing - the man at the rental counter specifically told me the car did not have snow tires, but when I checked, the car did in fact have (worn out) snow tires. Overall, this was a confusing and honestly quite scammy experience. I will not be using Fox in the future.

Had a great experience renting a car for the Christmas holidays. The checking in and out was so quick and simple. Has some of the best rental prices in town.
