If you see this guy at the Birmingham Airport for Hertz, BEWARE! I rented a car and, upon arrival, the representative refused to use my previously paid information for a booking I made a month ago, which led to a double charge! He wouldn’t give me a car until he had my credit card info, and then charged me again when I got home.

I am not comfortable knowing that he has my card info and he charged me after I dropped off the car and went home. He said my credit card was only for holding the car until I returned the car.

I’m extremely disappointed in this company and the financial loss from the double charge. The situation was mishandled, and since filing an online complaint, I haven't heard back. It’s been incredibly difficult to contact them! When I do reach someone on the phone, they just tell me to wait for a response about my complaint, but no one has followed up. Now I have to contact my bank for assistance.

My issue is with the same person Angie Smith had. This happened to me just in October. Someone needs to address this situation and ensure better training for staff who can effectively assist customers without causing issues. I'm now out of money because Hertz’s customer service is terrible!

After a very long day of travel and multiple delays, I finally arrived at the Hertz counter. Although I had a reservation number, the man at the counter curtly told me that he couldn't find my name, so i was out of luck. I asked if I could just start a new reservation, he said "no, there are no cars available" and asked me to step aside. I called my assistant and confirmed that it was a valid reservation /confirmation number. So I got back in line and waited for the other agent to come available. She found my reservation but told me that there were no cars available until they had cars returned. That was a piece of information that the first man did not say. He just told me there were no cars and told me to step aside. Very quickly a long line of people were waiting for cars. At one point I counted over 30 people. I patiently waited. Eventually the room cleared and a new group of travelers were waiting for cars while the entire first group was gone. After an hour and forty five minutes, I went to the counter and asked where I was in the cue to get a car. She turned to the ledge behind her where all of the folders with the names of those who were waiting for cars. She went through all the names and said "where did your name go?" She did not find it. I waited for 105 minutes after they denied that I even had a reservation, then found it, then lost it. What a horrible experience. THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY. DO NOT RENT YOUR CAR HERE. Btw, Hertz is also the counter for Dollar rental. So both companies were awful.

I've always had great customer service at this site. Especially this most recent visit to Birmingham. Jacari, I believe is his name, helped me find a vehicle to take care of my needs. I initially reserved a small SUV, but needed a bigger vehicle to carry all of my daughter's boxes that she ordered from Amazon. We're dropping her off at Alabama A&M for her freshman year and all her boxes were at my mother's house in Tuscaloosa. Jacari was patient and helpful in finding a big enough vehicle. He was also helping others while he was helping me and I was totally fine with that because of how respectful he was with everyone. Just want to say Thank You!

This has been a horrible experience with Hertz at the Birmingham Alabama International Location. The first compact car I was provided was a sir fiesta and the car smelled like cigarette smoke, stained seats, and dents on the car. So I went back inside dragging my heavy suitcase to the hertz sales associate and informed them. They immediately provided me with another car. However, the Rio car that I was provided has dent and scratches on it. Due to it being late I didn’t have time to get another car. However, the sales associate did come outside and fill out a pre-rental inspection form and she saw the dents and scratches. However, when I looked at the form today she listed the dents as scratches on the form. There isn’t a way for you to get in contact with them at the actual rental location. I would have to drive 1 hour and 30 minutes to change cars. This isn’t a good experience.

How does this location take so many reservations and not have cars to hand out. There are at least 10-15 groups waiting on a vehicle and they are currently processing zero people. This is the most ridiculous situation I have seen.

I have been to several locations with long lines, but the company would be processing and delivering vehicles as quickly as possible. For the last 5 minutes they haven’t even taken a customer for processing.

I am now 45 minutes past my reservation time and not even close to being the next customer. This situation is not okay.

As you can see by the low rating, the issues at this Hertz center are real. I have rented here twice and both times have fraudulently been charged for fuel - coincidental I think not. I had just filled up the car about a mile away and will be sending Hertz the proof from my credit card receipt. The staff intentionally ignored giving me a receipt as they stood talking while I waited and waited. I finally had to leave and quickly got the e-receipt showing $68 in fuel charges. Renter beware.

Hertz refused to give me a car! I had a reservation booked directly through Hertz and it was fully paid for months in advance. You would think this would be an easy process. Not even close!!! After waiting an hour in line Michael, the rental agent, told me that i needed the exact card that i had paid for the rental on. Why? Its been paid for and i have another credit card in my name that matches my license…i just didnt travel with that exact card nor does the reservation state i need to bring that exact card…so whats the problem. He told me my reservation was through a 3rd party site…(and for some reason i believed him at first)…and that i needed to call them to have them switch my card number to the one i had with me. Well, after him telling me to get out of the line i pulled up the reservation and it was made through Hertz’s site directly. So when i went back up to the counter and told him that he responded that i needed to call Hertz. I said…but im here at Hertz!!! He then proceeded to tell me…well the reservation is in your husbands name so i cant rent to you…no its not! My husband didnt even come on the trip and then i flipped my phone over and showed him the reservation that had MY name on it. What was this Michael guy’s problem? Was it because i declined the insurance coverage and the upgrade he tried pushing on me…”do you want full coverage or just the basic” Sounds like a scam when they dont give you the option of no coverage bc your insured through your car insurance already. At one point he lied again by saying he could never find my reservation…well then how did you see that i paid it in full with an Amex? This guy really has questionable integrity.
He then said he would rent me a car but with a new reservation, at rack rate, and i would be paying for a car again. Why? Ive already paid $250 for a car…why would you make me rent another one and pay for it? Its policy he says. I thought i was in the twilight zone and by this time was asking to talk to a manager. He had me sit down and wait. I turned on my phone timer…14 mins later still no manager. I walked up and said my daughter and i have to leave…we have appointments we are going to miss and he said okay i’ll have Dree the manager just call you…ummm, but i need a car so i can leave. He flat out refused. So, while waiting for his mgr i called the 800 for Hertz and 37 minutes later i was still on hold for a customer service agent, while sitting at the Birmingham Airport Hertz waiting for a manager who never came. Finally, i walked over to another rental car facility and rented a car. For reference, our flight landed at 10:35am…we finally had a rental car at 12:10pm. This was by far the worst experience i have ever encountered. I plan on disputing the charge on my credit card. I will NEVER rent from Hertz ever again.

- Having just read their reviews this guy has turned away many customers claiming they dont have reservations. It appears they are also fraudulently charging customers for fuel when the cars are returned filled. And all the reviews have the same generic response from the company. They clearly dont care! Shame on them!
