DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!!!

The worst experience of any car rental I have ever had. After returning the car with a full tank of gas, they still charged me an extra $200 for refueling. I later went back in person to the counter and asked them about the charge. Maria (the HERTZ employee) talked with the manager Chris to investigate the issue. She agreed that they had made a mistake on their end and would issue a refund for the extra charge. Weeks later I never got an email confirming the refund nor credit back on my card. I filed a dispute through my card providing them with every receipt and documentation I could find. Still, they sided with HERTZ and took their word. Avoid renting from this place at all costs!

Rented a car after our cruise as we have time to spare before our flight in the evening in LAX. Drove around for only 40 miles and returned the car in full tank at LAX. Yet, they still charged us fuel service fee. Called customer service to dispute and even sent an email with time-stamped pictures of the car with a full tank and still have not even heard anything after a month. What a disgraceful way to do business!

Very seamless return on car rental. We were traveling out for a cruise and decided to drive into Long Beach rather than flying. Dropped the car off and the ride share pickup to get to the port is literally just a crosswalk away. Aaron was very helpful and quick and we were on our way.

I was wrongly charged for mileage I didn't incur AND they never, ever picked up my numerous phone calls. I also should've checked Google Maps & Yelp reviews before booking, but now I know better.

On Saturday, 12/14, I left the lot with 12,255 miles on the odometer, and returned it the same day at 4:02 PM with 12,276 miles on the odometer and a full gas tank. So just 21 miles that day. Per the car return instructions in the parking lot, I also took a photo that showed the odometer and time of return. This helped me out later.

Later I received my email receipt, and it showed that the return was processed at 4:22PM with 12,365 miles on the odometer, so 89 miles over what I actually drove. I decided to wait until the next morning to let them know of their error, but then I was hit with a $29.38 gas refuel fee that seemed to be related to the wrong mileage and gave me more of a reason to call.

The next morning, I called about 9 or 10 times with no luck. I called many times again a few hours later, and still no luck! I then decided to call another 4 or 5 times on Monday, and again NOTHING. For reference, I called the number listed on the listing, and pressed 3 twice to actually get past the automated message. You may need it for whatever reason, but it may also prove to be useless since they won't pick up.

On Tuesday, I eventually emailed Hertz with a photo and explanation and they replied to me the following. They successfully refunded me, but I'm still annoyed and angry that I literally couldn't talk to anyone at LGB about this situation.

If you need a car at LGB, choose literally any other rental service. I had a pretty good experience with Enterprise the last time, so I should've just chosen them again.

This Hertz is a rip off. They will charge you for gas even when you return the car full. When you provide documentation of a full tank of gas (pictures,receipts) they still refuse. Do not use this location. They rip you off. They never answer the phone to rectify the situation and when you go through hertz.com they refuse to correct the error as well. Do not use this Hertz. They will rip you off.

The response from Hertz is meaningless. Local management is the problem and non-responsive. What is the point of forwarding to local management when they refuse to correct their mistake and provide awful customer service?
Empty words by Hertz when they are aware of the problems at this location and continue to allow them to rip off customers.

These guys are scammers. Had a car and fuel prepaid for. They tried to upgrade me to a Corvette for $20 more I said no, and apparently they still upgraded me without my knowledge. Total scammers do not rent here. Lost a customer.

I wish I would’ve got the manager’s name; I didn’t interact with her, my husband did. But the female manager on duty on 09/21 really helped my family get a rental car while we were in a bind. We really appreciated her help.

Recommend the company! Make sure you leave a valid email for the return transaction.
Picking up was the best part. The staff was effective and helpful. Upon returning the vehicle there was only one person in the booth but right away we were told to drop off the keys and they will send an email receipt. Which they did. Recommend to add a sign at the return booth guiding to drop off keys and to just do the line if something else is needed from the Hertz staff.
