Trust me, DON'T do business with Hertz!! The worst experience! Reserved the car several weeks in advance and made the mistake of prepaying. Our plane a was couple minutes late getting in, we were scheduled for a 12:01am pick up time. We arrived at the counter at 12:09am and no one was around. Waited for a while then found a number on the counter to call. No answer, left several voicemail messages. No one returned our calls. Finally asked the ladies at 2 other rental desks if they knew anything. They assured us the Hertz does this "ALL the time", they are supposed to stay until after the last flight arrives. But, the Hertz employee had been gone for "quite a while" before we showed up 8 minutes late. (We ended up renting a car from Enterprise, it was a super easy process and highly recommend them!) We canceled the payment to Hertz through our credit card to try to get a refund, Hertz denied the refund. So we had to pay for 2 rental cars for our quick vacation. I'll never do business with them again and I'll make sure I tell everyone who travels to use anyone else!!

Couldn’t find car for an hour.
When they did the clerk made no comments at check in and asked no questions so wasn’t clear what the rental terms were until reading the actual contract after.
The charges held were for estimated cost + $200, which I guess is standard…but then after returning the car in good condition 100% in compliance with the terms they charged ANOTHER $264 after checking it in for no reason before adjusting to the original contracted rate 3 days later.
That is unconscionable…$464 overcharge/hold for three days after a clean return on an $850 rental. So more than 50% excess charges Hertz put on my card for no reason, most of which was AFTER the clean return.
Only reason giving 2 vs star is cuz the car met our needs. .

Here waiting for our pre-booked rental car. Apparently their internet is timing out. We've been waiting over 40 minutes to get a car. Absolutely ridiculous! Only offered us a $50 credit for the inconvenience. Now helping another customer returning a vehicle while we sit and wait! Will NEVER rent here again!! Update. Finally got a rental, got into it and the inside is complete dusty and change oil soon light is on what a joke!

We went on a family trip and accidently rented a car from the mesa airport instead of the Phoenix Airport. We were assured by our mesa hertz employee we could easily rearrange this for our airport drop off. It was anything but easy or kind. After several attempts to talk to a person that actually worked at the mesa airport even tho we called their number. The 8th person we talked to said yes we can return it to the airport there will just be a fee. The person would not tell us what the estimate fee would be. After we tried 3 more times to contact a real person we were finallybable to find someone to give us a quote to move are car return from one airport to another 20 miles away. The cist would only be 1500 dollars. Our car rental for a week was only 527 dollars. I would recommend taking pictures of your car before pick up they tried to charge us for these scratches even tho these pictures are taken in their lot at night and we returned the car in daylight. I made the mistake of choosing a car rental company from now on i will go with renting a private car. This companybis just terrible. You have been warned.

I had a very disappointing experience with this location. I had a defective tire that blew out the side as the picture shows. There was no nail or any damage I caused to the tire. I was about 5 minutes away from returning the car when it popped on the highway exit. Since I had to change the defective tire in the 100 degree hot sun on the side of the highway, I thought they may be offering me a discount. To my surprise, they charged me $40 for the tire and said it was my fault I didn’t buy insurance. I showed them the pictures of the tire where it blew out the side and clearly not caused by anything I did. I would expect to have to pay for damage if I caused it like a crack on a windshield from hitting something or a dent from hitting something, but this was no different than the car breaking down due to a wheel falling off or transmission going out. Perhaps they would charge someone for that as well.

Rodney, the first employee I spoke with wouldn’t offer any consideration to help the situation. He even tainted me at the end of our conversation since I was all sweaty and fatigue from having to just change the tire in the hot sun when he said perhaps you should have called AAA with a smirk on his face. It got bad enough that another customer asked if he could go over to another area to talk about the situation. I stopped talking to him and asked for the manager. I waited probably about 10 minutes for the manager, Sydney, and she offered no flexibility either saying it was my fault and responsibility to pay for the tire as I didn’t buy extra insurance.

I have rented cars from several rental companies and many times even from hertz I have never heard of a rental company making a renter pay for a car breaking. Two other times in the past, I have had a rental break down. Neither time did the rental company make me pay for their car issue. The first was with enterprise when a CV shaft failed. They picked me up and got me a better nicer car. The second was from enterprise as well when a tire had a knot on it that looked like it was about to blow out like this one did. They didn’t even try to charge me.

I called Hertz customer service to complain about this location’s handling of the situation and charging me for the issue with the car. The customer service lady, Carly, was very nice and sent me a $40 voucher. That is better than nothing, but it wasn’t right for them to bill me for this in the first place.

Absolutely the WORST experience. Reserved a car 3 months ago and show up at the counter tonight for them to say ‘we have no cars, come back tomorrow morning’. Our hotel is over 30 minutes away. It honestly felt like a Seinfeld episode. The manager Cheston is completely clueless and unprofessional in both appearance and demeanor. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ AT MESA AIRPORT!

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2024 - in hindsight, this was the best thing that could have happened, as we have used Turo 6 times since and have absolutely loved it. You never have to worry about what kind of car you are getting, or whether it will even be there when you arrive like with Hertz. Plus, most Turo hosts will drop off at the airport for free. Make the switch, rental car companies are stuck in the 90’s, Turo is more reliable, cheaper, and way less of a hassle.

Never renting from Hertz again! Terrible customer service when you actually spoke with a person otherwise their phone service told me I was calling outside of business hours when it was 8 am on Friday morning. Long story short my flight was delayed and didn't arrive in Gateway airport until after 1am. No one was at the counter and no one would answer the phone numbers called. Ended up getting Uber to the hotel had a super short night and took Uber back to Gateway airport because like I said, no one answers the phone on a Friday morning. The counter guy haggled with me and his manager over a discount that neither wanted to give me even though I explained that I wouldn't be in this situation talking to him if I would have had my rental as their policy says they are required to stay for two hours after the last delayed flight. I simply was asking them to cover my Uber charges which again, would not have existed had they done their part. He gave me $25 off which is half of what it cost me to do the round trip to the airport not to mention the inconvenience of having to do this on vacation.
My only recommendation is read the reviews and consider the negative ones because the bots don't leave negative comments! As for me, lesson learned and I have deleted my Hertz app and sticking to Enterprise. Que Sera,Sera
