The recent negative reviews had made me nervous renting from this location. Despite this, I had a flawless and smooth rental pick up experience. I had checked in using the gold plus program and pick up was swift. The car i received was less than a year old, clean, well equipped and with a fresh service.

Worst experience. I booked a car for 7am. They didn't have cars available. The excuse was people returned late. We'll how come everyone that booked at 7am didn't have a car. There were at least 5 bookings waiting. You're telling me every drop off was late? Yeah right. Be honest with your customers. The customer service was terrible they basically showed no care that they made us all wait. On top of that, I was able to book an AWD car. It was advertised this way. When I got there they said they don't commit to drivetrains types. I was so upset, it's fine that they don't commit to that but don't advertise it that way. I was going to Tahoe and the mountains require chains during certain times of the year. This was so disappointing. Just felt like a complete cash grab. I switched to National after this.

If you're planning to rent from this Hertz location, be prepared for rude and unprofessional service. During my recent visit, I witnessed one of the managers named Hoang yelling at an employee for nearly 10 minutes straight in full view of customers. The blatant mistreatment was shocking—not only did he demean his staff, but his behavior also created a hostile atmosphere for customers. This incident left me very disappointed and questioning the level of customer care at this location. I hope Hertz takes immediate action to address these issues and ensure that both employees and customers are treated with respect.

I had a very disappointing experience at Hertz on Mason Street, San Francisco. When I had an issue with my rental car and asked the staff for help, they were extremely unhelpful and provided no solution at all. Instead of assisting, they responded in a very impolite manner, making the whole experience frustrating. Customer service was terrible, and I expected much better from a well-known company like Hertz. Very, very disappointed and would not recommend renting from this location.

Speechless!
I was treated in a rude and impolite manner by Mr. Barun Pal during my rental car pickup.
Did the online check-in before, that stated I had to bring a credit card, divers license and ID OR passport to pickup the car.
Mr. Pal first denied accepting any kind of ID and sent me back to the hotel (15min) to get my passport.
Once I got back, he told me that my two credit cards were not accepted. Pre-Authorization of 500$. I insisted that they must be working and after a minute that it took me to convince him he tried again and it worked. He blamed me and pretended that I do not have any valid payment method.
Next: checking my drivers license Pal told me that it was expired - despite it had been accepted during online check-in. I explained him that Swiss drivers licenses do not have an expiration date. He told me I had a Czech drivers license. I said, well, I know that I am Swiss with a Swiss drivers license. He wouldn’t believe me and showed me a book with a picture of a Swasiland (!) drivers license. Again, I explained him that I am Swiss and that Swasiland is located in Africa. I am neither Czech nor Swazi. Very unprofessional. After that he sent his colleague to get my drivers license checked. After a few minutes he returned and said it was ok, not expired and accepted.
I am renting a lot with Hertz but I have NEVER seen such an unprofessional and impolite station like the one at Mason St, SF.
I definitely ask Hertz to tell Mr. Barun Pal how to handle customers politely and explain him the correct details of a rental agreement.
I’ll never return to Hertz Mason St., for sure.

Terrible service my husband booked a car 3 days in advance they accepted his card (debit card) to hold vehicle but when he arrived they told him no debit card and that someone would have to come to the store with a credit card to get car. He needed the car one way to.crescent city to see his mom who is giving us a car as a gift. We have more than enough to pay deposit and not once did customer service the counter clerk offer any help or options for rental. I find it unprofessional especially when this particular rental agency is close to convention area and there are tons of people who don’t rely on credit cards as their main source of payment

In contrast with the bad reviews, we had a good experience with this car rental.
Our travel agent here in the Netherlands, booked us a small Ford for our roadtrip. 21 days. When we went to the office the man was very friendly. He told us the small car wasn't available. He offered a an electric car, but that was no option for us. He could give us a good deal for a big Audi. $25 per day extra. That was to much. I didn't want to pay extra. After searching, he found us a big SUV. Free upgraded. The car was clean, it had some scratches, and a star in the windshield. but it was documented properly. So no problem. We had a amazing road trip and returned the car in Los Angeles Airport. It was a good experience for us. Greetings from the Netherlands!

no issues here. reading reviews made me hesitant initially, but it went fine. electric vehicle was ready before arrival because I booked directly with Hertz and am a member of their free “Gold Plus” reward program. I suggest doing both.
