They are extremely unclear and not upfront about what charges you could possibly incur upon return. Manager Jesus is extremely rude and immediately came out with an attitude before even understanding why we were upset. We paid $618 for an suv and I paid extra for the liability. The total for the car with deposits and everything was well over $800.

We have dogs but never bring them in our rental cars because we don't want them to mess them up. However, our clothes and belongings have pet hair and no matter what we do, to clean and remove it all from every single item is impossible. I was under the impression that paying for liability meant I could bring the car back in any condition - those were the words of an employee there. Well, upon drop off they refused to accept the vehicle back unless I paid a $300 fee on top of what I had already paid for the car because there was pet hair. I refused to pay it and Jesus, the manager, refused to accept the vehicle return unless I paid it. He had an attitude from the second he walked out the door and so I matched his attitude with my own. I refused to pay it and said I'd be back with it clean and the I better not have it be charged for being late.

I was never told upon booking the reservation that it would be a possibility to incur a $300 cleaning charge. I just rented a car in April from them in fact and returned it much the same way this car looks and never got a fee then either.

I drove up the street to a car wash and vacuumed the hair for $8 vs a stupid $300 "cleaning charge." I return back to the Hertz and the manager is gone. At this point, my husband and I are late for work so I say something about it to the worker. He checks the car in and returns it without the cleaning charge.

You can see from my photos the amount of dirt and hair they wanted to charge $300 for. I've rented many cars from here over the years and have absolutely never had to clean them upon returning. This is the first time I've ever heard of incurring a $300 charge.

Be wary of how you return the vehicle you rent and make sure you vacuum it out on your own just to be safe and avoid a possible charge.

By far the worst experience in car rental ever. Car was empty no gas, dirty on the outside, find power bars in the car, and the seat belt was cut out in the rear passenger seat. No wonder this location had a low rating i exchanged cars and it was still dirty on the outside. I'll not comeback here.

Had a very good experience despite all the negative reviews. I’ve rented cars many times before from other companies- this was my first from hertz. Let me tell you how easy they make everything! So yes, I can see how an inexperienced person might not be aware of all the standard industry fees and procedures because I walked in and 5 minutes later I was driving out the lot happy and ready to load it up for our trip.

Will definitely be coming back. If you’re a paranoid freak like my partner just read your contract and you’ll be just fine.

That said, customer service was excellent. Had an issue using the app trying to extend the rental, no biggie, took care of it at the desk when I got back. No problem. They were happy to have my business.

The staff is friendly and efficient. I gave a one-star rating because,
1. the location didn't have the car we picked out when making an online reservation. The Ford Explorer costs us $200.00 extra on gas.

2. after I returned the car, I got the charges posted on my credit card account and the billing statement for them. However, I noticed there was another unauthorized charge without an invoice or statement. I tried to call their customer service, but there were no answers. Then I sent them a request via the website, but no answers either.
Is it legal to charge customers credit cards without consent?!

3. Hertz billed me for tolls. Of course, that's my responsibility to pay for it. But Hertz charged $19.99 for a processing fee!!

I have always used Enterprise for car rentals, and I wanted to try Hertz. Not a smooth experience 😕
Until now, I have not received an explanation for the unauthorized credit card charges.

This place should be called "Hurts" because they provided me with such a painful experience. The car i rented actually died on me. I had to dump it in frisco and get another one. Such an inconvenience. I hope reviews like these serve as a reminder to treat your customers with respect and provide them with quality service. You never know when one of them might be an influental business reviewer.

The Assistant manager who helped me at the Signal Hill location on 01/05/23 (I wished I remembered his name) was so pleasant and helped me get me in a Tesla rental while my car was getting repaired, which was a fun experience. Turned it back in at the Whittier location because that’s where the Assistant manager worked at. Overall this was my first experience renting with Hertz and I will definitely come back! Thank you!

I had a really bad experience here. I went in for a rental on the 22nd of july. I had already gone into a discounted site and had made a reservation for a manager special on that day. I got there and there is a line of more than five people. One computer is working due to the Microsoft issue. I finally get my turn and they tell me they have no manager special cars and to pick from only three cars. I asked for the cheapest car which ended up being $100 over what I was expecting to pay that day. The person behind me also had a manager special and the representative told him that it would not be too much of a difference. I think $100 is more of a difference. Especially since I was getting my car repaired from a car accident so it was a unforeseen expense. At no point in time did the sales rep try to understand my situation and try to work with me on the price. And not to mention how unprofessional they were 1 gentleman was wearing flip flops to work and the other gentleman burped in front of me.

Worst and most unprofessional car rental service in Whittier! They wrecked the rental car I had rented and then tried to force me into upgrading to a car at double the cost! The men were very, very rude and hostile stating that they were now closed and would no longer help me. Needless to say, i didn’t get a car!
