Service here is absolutely terrible. It was a Saturday night and they had one bartender working. We ordered drinks and it took 30 minutes to get them. Trying to get the bartenders attention to ask for a menu took another 15 mins. Would not recommend as the food is nothing special.

Kona Kai is one of the best marinas in San Diego. Located on Shelter Island, it's the closest marina to the ocean. The staff, especially Mary O'Brien who holds down the office and is super friendly and helpful, as is Dockmaster Adam Veves. It's immaculately maintained with great amenities, including all those of the adjacent Kona Kai Resort. Vessel Restaurant, with tables and terrace overlooking the marina, offers a wonderful happy hour from about 2 to 5:30 pm daily. We enjoyed our slip which backed onto the main channel. The tenants are especially friendly. We come here most Januarys and recommend it.

1776 Shelter Island 24 hour pier and great parking grassy areas playground for kids great views can relax walk run 🐕 dog friendly its also has good parking for Rvs boat ramps and clean restrooms easy to find also has a small restaurant on the pier. I even can get food delivered from Uber eats and grub hub lol its easy to describe your location to find others😁👍💫👩‍🦽also lots of disability parking 👍

Closest to open ocean comes at a cost; Most expensive moorage rates in San Diego but it comes with all the Banda Music you can stand just like a boat yard. No security to hassle you but your vehicle WILL get damaged in the parking lot with zero recourse. Come and join the fray

The absolute greatest Marina in all of San Diego. Location is absolutely gorgeous and staff are always professional and friendly. This is what marinas in San Diego should be.

Best marina? Not so fast. My experience there was a disaster. They provide no actual management of the marina outside of collecting their extremely overpriced rates. Slips are double, and sideways to wind and current. Can't tell you how many boats I saw drifting into other boats due to this. Really do your homework before considering this place. Probably cheaper in actual Hawaii.

My friend got married here, and I fell in love with the place:

Recently one of my close friends married the love of his life at this beautiful location. I know it may seem like I'm just praising this place too soon in the review, but hear me out. I'm 44 years old. I own a Mortgage Brokerage. I love customer service. My family had a restaurant growing up. Location + incredible service = amazing results. This is Kona Kai.

From inception, you'll appreciate the cosmetics of this place. It's wrapped in a character of San Diego not often seen by visitors. You're near the Bay, the yachts, the scenery, and great weather more often than not. I find it rare to discover a place like this that has a photogenic advantage so huge that it's almost unfair. You cannot take a horrible picture here.

The service was like no other. We had such a great time I left BOTH my neckties here and swiftly recovered them both the next day. The staff was friendly in all areas of the meaning: Helpful with the wedding, the food was incredible, served with a smile, on time, and everyone seemed to want to enjoy the wedding just as much as the wedding party!!

Come stay for a weekend. Book an event. Or visit and have a nice lunch or dinner. You'll thank me for it.

Great marina, staff, location and atmosphere. We purchased a new to us boat in the SD area and didn't have much familiarity with the area. Everyone we talked to recommended Kona Kai and after our stay of four months we couldn't agree more. They are in the process of renovating/expanding the hotel so there is a little construction activity to deal with but for us it wasn't a big deal. Walking distance to a number of boat supply stores and great contractors/techs close by.

We would stay again and hope to do so on our way back North next summer.
