Absolutely love their selection on ropes. The staff is always so so nice to me and very helpful. They've actually taught me quite a bit. Especially the gentleman in the rigging department with the accent. I honestly enjoy my trips here. I'm a younger guy and n
ot the typical look of their average customers but that has never affected my treatment. Which at other stores definitely is something I notice. Tbh my hands down favorite me Marine supply store in all of San Diego!!

I cannot recommend this place enough, we’re taking off cruising and have the boat hauled out in Ensenada, decided to do all the running rigging for a cutter rigged 40’ monohull, so that entailed a fair amount of lines. Danny was super knowledgeable, extremely helpful, and awesome to chat with, he spent a couple hours helping us decide on and match lengths for everything. Also huge shoutout to Graham, after some encouragement from him I thought I’d try to splice eyes back in Ensenada but after failing twice thought I’d leave it to the expert and brought everything back for him to do. He was super helpful, has wealth of knowledge and tons of awesome rigging ideas. Top notch.

Captain of a class C tall ship embarking on a circumnavigation... Recently anchored in Santa Barbara and our Lofran windlass got stuck in the on position. No damage because I already had 200' of chain down but would have been disastrous had I only had 10' of chain down, could have taken down the masts! Called Danny at Sailing Supply and we determined that old solenoids were the issue. Danny personally drove to the location to pick up the parts and I received them within a day. Fixed the windlass today and ready to go! Perfect, couldn't have been better! Thanks Danny! Good to have a company like this to count on when needed.

The rigger was very unprofessional and impolite with us showing a despotic and un mature behaviour with customer. He is a terrible asset for the business.
Rest of the shop was good but we left with a bad taste.

Downwind Marine's previous owner Chris Frost was amazingly helpful to all sailors -- locals and cruisers alike. While he's now retired and the San Diego Marine Exchange now owns Downwind and Sailing Supply, the helpful attitude is still there and we know that the folks at Downwind will do all they can to locate a hard-to-find part or to help us decide how to deal with a rigging issue. Much of our standing rigging is hardware via the Sailing Supply when they also were a separate shop. It is great to to Sailing Supply and Downwind together under one roof now. We hope Chris's legacy will be Downwind's support of the cruising community for years to come.

Always helpful and wise advice with a big side helping of kindness and humor. If you have a boat problem of any kind they will either help you or make a good referral. Very trustworthy company. Good inventory and fair prices.

If you own a sailboat, this is your place. If you're going cruising on a sailboat oh, this is really your place. It's a real boat store, not like West Marine which is a clothing fishing store. Nice knowledgeable people. They have a rig shop if you need it. Carry lots of line. Certainly have everything you need to rig a boat including winches, pulleys, traveler cars, sheet stoppers, etc. This is a sister store to San Diego Marine Exchange.
