Went here for a Jeep Badge of Honor Trail Badge with family and her Jeep and had a great time once we found the trail (#404). The map ($5 for color, $10 for color waterproof) was full of information on how to get to the trails. However, once you got into the park, you couldn’t tell the main access trail from an actual trail. It was frustrating and spent well over an hour just looking for the trail we wanted to ride. Met some folks in side-by-sides that started following us in our Jeeps hoping to find a trail themselves. Ran into them about an hour later after we found #404 and they still hadn’t found the trail they were looking for. The park staff were very friendly and tried explaining how to get to the trail I was looking for, but the with the lack of markings along the way, it was very frustrating. We found our Badge Trail by dumb luck. We did have a good time, but at one point we almost turned around and left cause we were getting tired and frustrated. But instead we decided to just stick to the main access road/trails since there were great confidence boosting obstacles on them. The bonus was the wash rack! It takes tokens or debit and for one swipe of my debit card was able to spray off both Jeeps in 20min for $5! I didn’t notice any food on site however, 20min down the road are a few places to eat. I gave Stony Lonesome 3 stars cause the lack of good clear trail markings. I would suggest better signage and maybe at intersections of the main access route a weather proof ‘You are here’ map. Other than that, I would come back and I will for the other Honor Badge.

Had a great time at Stony Lonesome this weekend. I read several reviews about people having trouble navigating. We had no issues. The trails were clearly marked, and they had great maps. Also all of the trails were on the onX app. All of the staff that we encountered were super nice and helpful.

Stoney Lonesome is a great place for offroad fun for both stock vehicles and those built up to handle more advanced terrain. The main building and the surrounding facilities are top-notch. Additionally, the staff were very polite and were happy to help me as a first-time visitor. As part of a group, I was able to tackle 2 Jeep Badge of Honor trails (404 & Switchback) and enjoyed many other trails besides those. The on-site wash bays are awesome, the parking is quite expansive and overall it was a great experience.
The only real criticism I can give is that the trail signage really needs to be improved. The maps they have for sale in the main building help, but better on-trail signage would go a long way to assist people in getting around the park.
Had a great time overall at Stoney Lonesome! I plan on returning and staying either at a campsite or in one of the cabins.

The trails were in great shape, staff was super friendly. Facilities were what you’d expect at an off-road park!

Nice campground but a little more signage would be extremely helpful. To find the campground, come down the rock path like you are heading towards the gate to the trails and turn right. We arrived with reservations after hours so nobody was at the office to give directions. Nice campground although near the road so a bit noisy. Has a playground and off-road RC obstacle course. Cabins are available.
The trails were muddy making it extra difficult. 419 was extremely difficult with a slick slanted rock ledge as part of the main trail. No winch point so had to back down the narrow trail.

The place itself is great and truly does deserve a 5 star rating. The staff is great and the facility is awesome. Unfortunately, the new wash bays and bath house were closed when we were there (COVID protocols?) But they look like they will be great too.
If it has been raining there will always be water on the trails and you need to be careful what line you choose going through it or you can get stuck. And you will most likely get dirty while you are here! Plan for it and bring an extra change of clothes. They have bathrooms you can change in even if the bath house is not open.
I have not stayed at any of the accommodations so I can't comment on that.
My only concern with going here is that they cannot seem to get a handle on people drinking alcohol. When you drive around on the trails you constantly see beer cans. However I do think that the staff is doing what they legally can to try to control this. I think unless there were a constant law enforcement presence this problem is never going to go away and it's just something that you will always see at off-road vehicle parks unfortunately. It's just something to be aware of and to keep in mind when it comes to being safe and watching out for other drivers while you are there. Especially if you have little ones with you.
