Why would you go with a big nameless car rental agency when you could hire a bespoke one? Save some money, and enjoy the more personal experience of being picked up outside baggage claim and then given the owner Steve's direct phone number for communicating any issues that might come up. Drive a car that has proven its durability and doesn't smell like new chemical upholstery. Blend into your surroundings in a lightly used vehicle that doesn't scream tourist. Finally that car rental experience that one was always wishing for its existence.

This small, individual-owned car rental business was a super budget saver!

Located just a BART stop (public transport train) away from the San Francisco Airport, I was able to pick up a clean, comfy and fuel efficient car during my one-week visit to Northern California.

The owner, Steve, is friendly and super professional.

This company has locations near San Francisco and Los Angeles— definitely worth the extra steps to save significant money!

I had an absolutely fantastic experience with this car rental company! The owner went above and beyond, being incredibly friendly and even offering to pick us up and drop us off at the airport. The car was in pristine condition, and throughout our rental, we encountered zero issues. The exceptional service and flawless car made our trip so much more enjoyable. Although the name of this car company isn't immediately confidence-inspiring, I gotta say I was pretty impressed! By far the best value option for car rentals at SFO, Super Cheap Car Rentals really provided excellent service and value. I was picked up at the airport within minutes of arrival and was on the road within about 15 minutes thereafter. The vehicle itself was a Ford Fiesta that looked like it had seen some better days, but really what can you expect for $40 USD/day. Filling up the gas tank at San Francisco prices was almost more expensive! Everything seemed to work as it was supposed to, although there was no remote control to unlock/lock the car, and deciphering the audio control panel took a bit of work (though this is a Ford issue and not a problem with the car rental company). I essentially drove all the way down to Big Sur and back to SFO without any issues at all! Dropping off the car was likewise a breeze, and the car rental place is right across the street from the BART station so it was easy to get into downtown San Francisco afterwards. Would definitely recommend this place if you're a budget-minded person renting a car in the SFO area and don't really car about getting a top of the line new vehicle.

TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE
I would give a NEGATIVE 5 star review if I could. I don't recommend this place! You get what you pay for. SUPER CHEAP CARS. UNRELIABLE. BREAKS DOWN! We ALMOST DIED because of their poorly maintained car. Its a small company, so there isn't much help when the car breaks down too. Pay a few more dollars for peace of mind
... rather than make you do most of the work and leave you traumatized!

WHY WRITE A REVIEW?
It has taken me a year to finally write this review as a result of all the PTSD I had from renting a car here. I don't normally write bad reviews because things happen or people have bad days. My interaction with the owner, Supercheap Steve, and his response (especially when it was time to get reimbursed) is worth writing about. The cheap price doesn't outweigh the emotional distress and time spent being frustrated when something does happen ... which is always a possibility. It happened to us. It's not worth the few extra dollars saved! Get a car from a bigger company with better customer service.

I hope no one has to go through what I went through.

I am not surprised by the nature in which the owner responded below. He acted as if he was doing us a favor the entire time, when in actuality, it was his responsibility. IT WAS NOT AS EASEFUL AND EFFORTLESS AS THE MESSAGE CLAIMS. In fact, it was the complete opposite.

and you decide if this is the kind of person you would want to deal with in the middle of an emergency.

Here are a few examples:
1. being told that "I needed to figure it out because his wife was getting mad at him for working during their move"

2. the owner creating a kayak account under my name without my consent

3. the owner not answering my calls unless I blocked my number when we started talking about reimbursements

Fantastic. How come more Aussies don’t know about these guys? They should and save a bundle. We were looking at paying over $2k Aussie with most of the majors, however we ended up paying $750 with Super Cheap and are so happy we did.

We rented a VW Jeda for two weeks and just returned it only days ago. In Sydney, we optioned online for a Corolla-size vehicle and hence received the Jeda.

Their cars are a few years old, however they look quite contemporary and ours behaved like clockwork. We drove all around California and even to Yosemite. The owner (Steve, I think) even provided snow chains in case we needed them. Fortunately, even though there was snow on the ground, it wasn’t thick enough to have chains installed. Which I was thankful for as they are a hassle to get on and off. It was just a case of driving slow and careful.

I opted for the mechanical support which wasn’t that much extra. We didn’t need it, but in a different country it was nice to know we had that backup.

Finally, I should underline that there are no hidden extras here!!! You know how it is with rental car companies when you turn up to get your car and they whack on extra insurance costs that totally knock your expected budget. Not these guys.

Totally laid back and trustworthy. I must also mention you’ll get lost trying to find these guys on Google maps. They are only a few miles from the international airport so an Uber will get you here in minutes. Just get as close as you can and ring the office. They’ll come out to find you.

Its worth it!
